The video-documentary of the gangland execution of Charalambos Theologos, known to authorities as “Bobby the Greek,” in a coffee shop in the city of Laval, on the outskirts of Montreal, has shocked Canada and the Greek diaspora.

The murder occurred in broad daylight, when two armed men wearing hoods and sweatshirts entered a Starbucks coffee shop and opened fire on the 40-year-old Greek. Customers fell to the floor to save themselves, while security cameras recorded the attack frame by frame, with patrons running in terror towards the exit.

Theologos was fatally wounded, while two other people who were next to him were seriously injured.

Underworld score settled

Quebec police attribute the killing to a settlement of scores between rival organized crime factions, as Theologos was known for his activities in drug trafficking, extortion and arson rings in the Laval area.

According to the CBC, the victim was the leader of a group known as the “Greeks of Someday,” which was active in extortion and illegal activities. “The target was Charalambos Theologos, known as Bobby the Greek. He was killed alongside two other members of the gang,” the Canadian network reported.

His role in organized crime

Theologos, 40, was known to authorities as a middleman in extortion and murder contracts, and his criminal record included charges of cocaine and heroin trafficking, weapons possession and conspiracy.

Reports indicate that he had recently come into conflict with other criminal groups, including the Hells Angels in Ontario, which may have led to his murder.

“He was involved in extortion and possibly arson of restaurants. He was trying to extort money through threats, which caused reactions in the underworld,” said a former Montreal police commander.

The video clues and the burned vehicle

The video from the security cameras has now been included in the case file and is considered a key element in identifying the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, authorities are investigating a burned-out car found hours after the murder in a parking lot in northeast Montreal. The vehicle is believed to have been the escape vehicle of the perpetrators, and traces of accelerants have been found, which supports the theory of premeditated arson.

Police have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, but no arrests have been made so far.

“Revenge is inevitable” – Warnings of a new cycle of violence

Former police detective Pietro Poletti warned that the attack could lead to retaliation between rival factions. “The elimination of the leader of a group leaves a power vacuum. Everyone wants a piece of the drug market and areas of influence,” he said.

He described the current state of Montreal's underworld as "chaotic," explaining that young criminals have easy access to weapons, act without rules, and do not hesitate to shoot in public places.

Reactions and increased security measures
Quebec's Minister of Public Safety, Ian Lafreniere, said the execution in broad daylight was "particularly worrying" and that he was closely monitoring developments. At the same time, authorities have increased the presence of police officers in key areas of Laval and Montreal to prevent possible retaliatory attacks.

The investigation is continuing with the cooperation of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) and the Montreal police, while officers are closely monitoring individuals who had relations with Theologos.
