The Hellenic Club of Canberra, in association with the Embassy of Greece, is presenting an exhibition titled "Celebrating Canberra's Centenary with a Spark of Hellenicity."
It's the presentation of eight modern Greek-Australian painters on themes inspired by Canberra. The painters are : Nikos Bonovas, Steven Kaldis, Giorgos Komino, Alexandra Karidiotou, Philippos Georgiou, Stavros Papantoniou and Peter Mihalandros.
The exhibition is curated by Eva Dafaranos, the wife of the Greek ambassador and is part of the series of the event "Windows to the World."
"As the Embassy of Greece we would like to present to the visitor the artistic power of Greek-Australian painters in a different way. They were inspired by the various faces of Canberra," Dafaranos told local media Neos Kosmos.
She requested that the artists paint not just the natural environment, but also some historic buildings of the city, including the buildings of the Embassy of Greece and of the Hellenic Club, aiming to capture the Greek character of the city.
The exhibition will be open from October 11 to December 3, at the Hellenic Club Community Gallery, Woden.
