Rockaways Garbage Bag Death Ruled as Homicide

  • Written by

33-year-old Queens man Quynton Ross, who was found inside a garbage bag in the Rockaways, was examined by a medical examiner, who confirmed his death as a homicide.

The man died of a gunshot wound in the chest, according to police.  Ross' remains were found Monday in a small grave located on Beach 40th Street between Boardwalk and Edgemere Avenue in a plastic bag.  He was reported to be missing for over 24 hours.

Ross' concerned mother accessed the "Find My iPhone" app to locate his phone. The deceased man's family was able to trace his iPhone to a sand dune on the same street, where they found his bloody attire and phone in a plastic garbage bag. They then called 911 and detectives found Ross only a few yards away from the boardwalk.

Family friend Noel Moses explained, "It was based on a GPS connection with the phone. That is it...Using her motherly instinct, she was able to come to this location." Quynton Ross leaves behind a 6-year-old daughter and was engaged to be married.
