Birds Force Emergency JetBlue JFK Landing

  • Written by

An emergency landing was conducted today at JFK Airport, after JetBlue Airways Flights 671 was struck with birds.

Around 9:30 a.m., the plane was hit with birds shortly after its takeoff, from Westchester County Airport . To better be safe than sorry, the JetBlue pilot diverted the plane to JFK and landed before 10:00 a.m. The plane's original destination was Palm Beach International Airport in Florida. No injuries were reported regarding the 142 passengers and crew aboard.

Courtesy of LiveATC.net, the transcript between the pilot and the air traffic controller can be read below:

Pilot: Just be advised that we hit birds here.

Controller: Is everything ok?

Pilot: Yeah. We'll get back with you. Just be advised that we have birds off of White Plains. We do have maybe some, a little bit of nose damage. We are not quite sure at this point. We will carry on and divert to JFK.

Bird strikes are a routine occurrence in the airline industry. The FAA will administer a further investigation.
