Train Survey Grades Metro-North D+

  • Written by

A Metro-North online commuter survey, graded the railroad system with a D+.

WCBS 880 reported that over 600 Metro-North train riders completed the study, which was posted online by the Commuter Action Group. An additional survey will be administered in June.

Commuters mainly felt that many trains were never on time and no improvements had been made, within the last couple of months. Commuter Action Group's Jim Cameron remarked, "Next biggest complaint was the lack of seating, poor communication...It has been a horrible winter for commuters with many delays, lack of service, lack of heat on cars, etc. So I think that the overall grade of a D+ was not really surprising."

More than 50% of survey takers claimed they felt safe while riding Metro-North trains. The train company hired a new president this year, who pledged to preserve safety before timeliness, regarding the fatalities, crashes and derailments that trains have incurred in recent years. Most participants placed most of their criticisms on Metro-North, but also blamed state lawmakers and the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
