A proposal by the Education Ministry to end a two-month strike by administrative staff at the countries two largest universities has been flatly rejected.

Within just one month, from the end of August to end-September, the number of corporations that have fallen behind on their taxes soared from close to 183,000 to over half a million, according to the data published by the Finance Ministry.

Latvia will become the 18th Eurozone members, at the same time, as Greece will be taking over the EU presidency, while after 12 months Latvia will be undertaking the presidency post, as announced by meeting foreign ministers of Greece and Latvia Evangelos Venizelos and Edgars Rinkēvičs, after their meeting in Athens.

The intention of the government to change the eletoral law, as concerns elections for local government, was announced by alternate interior minister Leonidas Grigorakos.
