Turkish & Russian Foreign Ministers Privately Discuss Cyprus Situation

  • Written by

Turkey and Russia's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Sergei Lavrov privately met to discuss the situation in Cyprus, prior to starting the High Level Cooperation Council being held in Ankara.

According to Turkish media sources, Turkey's diplomatic delegates have claimed that Russia believes that Cypriot negotiations have to be reignited soon, as reported by Parikiaki.

It was reported that the two FMs also talked about Lavrov's planned travels to Turkey next year, the two nation's bilateral ties, trade, tourism and financial collaborations, along with the next G20 panel.

The Republic of Cyprus' President Nicos Anastasiades withdrew from Cypriot negotiations back in October, due to Turkey's illegal EEZ explorations with its "Barbaros" seismic exploration ship in the Greek-Cypriot waters.
