Seven are dead and five are injured in a car accident that occurred late at night on the Egnatia Odos at the height of Alexandroupolis.

According to the first information, a car that was moving at high speed at the height of the Ardani junction, in Alexandroupolis, overturned and hit the protective bar hard.*According to the police announcement, seven people lost their lives and five others were injured in the accident. They were all taken to the Alexandroupolis hospital.

According to initial estimates, the vehicle is involved in the illegal trafficking of migrants, while the police were informed about the incident by a passing citizen.

So far the nationality of the victims and whether there were one or two traffickers in the vehicle remains unknown. 

The announcement of the police
Today (5-8-2020) in the early morning hours, at 648.60 km of the Egnatia Road Kipon - Igoumenitsa (height of Alexandroupolis), I.X.E. A car overturned, crashed into a concrete base under construction and overturned.

Seven (7) of the vehicle's occupants were fatally injured in the accident, as well as five (5) other occupants of the vehicle were injured.

The dead and injured were taken to Alexandroupolis hospital.

According to the data reported so far, the above private car, for which a theft has been reported on 4/8/2020 to a police service in Thessaloniki, is involved in a case of trafficking in illegal immigrants.

Preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Alexandroupolis Traffic Department and the Feres Border Guard Department.
