A Washington Post article based on the Associated Press reports on the participation of Giannis Antetokounmpo in a one-minute government commercial that airs before Christmas.
Under the slogan "All Victory Starts in Defense", the two-time NBA MVP urges citizens to take safety precautions during the pandemic. The ad shows images of Giannis from the neighborhood of Athens where he grew up and snapshots from his games with the National Team of Greece. The son of a Nigerian immigrants appears to say in the ad: "I have learned in my life to look the opponent in the eye. But for the first time in my life, I am playing against an invisible opponent. I can not see him but he is there. This is how I see COVID ".
The commercial was republished on his Twitter account by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The article closes by pointing out that the universal lockdown that started in Greece on November 7 is still in force for two months. Public health authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant during the festive season, as hospitals in areas with a high epidemiological burden remain overcrowded.
