Featured Launch ceremony of the frigate “Formion” today – Dendias in France

Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias is currently in France, accompanied by the Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff (GEETHA), General Dimitrios Choupis, and the Chief of the Hellenic Navy (GEN), Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Katara, for the launch ceremony of the FDI HN frigate “Formion.”

The “Formion” is the third FDI HN frigate – also known as Belharra – being constructed by Naval Group for the Hellenic Navy.

Sections (blocks) of the “Formion” were built at the Salamina shipyards in Greece and were transported on February 5th to the Naval Group shipyard in Lorient, France, where they were assembled as part of the next construction stages.

It’s worth noting that, within the framework of the FDI HN frigate program, Naval Group, as stated in its official announcements, is consistently collaborating with the Greek defense industry.

In this direction, Greek companies are being integrated into Naval Group’s supply chain and have the opportunity to participate in other programs and future international tenders.

The FDI HN frigate is a 4,500-ton open-sea warship. It is a multi-mission vessel known for its resilience and features advanced capabilities across all domains of naval warfare: anti-ship, anti-aircraft, anti-submarine, and special forces deployment, with unique capabilities against asymmetric threats.

The frigate is equipped with a range of technological innovations developed by Thales, including radar, sonar, and electronic warfare systems.
