Farmers protesting in Lefkonas, Serres, passed the police blockade and are heading to the Promachonas customs office.

Featured Farmers protesting in Lefkonas, Serres, passed the police blockade and are heading to the Promachonas customs office.

The police buses had closed the National Road in both directions, and behind them were the riot police squads. The convoy with the tractors, as soon as it reached the point and saw the barrier, stopped momentarily.

The farmers got off the tractors and had a verbal confrontation with the police chiefs. They then tried to find a way to break the blockade and succeeded, passing through the fields on the left and right of the National Road. Thus, they are heading at full speed towards the Promachonas customs office, where they will proceed with a new blockade.

The Police set up a roadblock on the National Highway, but there was no further intention to engage in conflict with the farmers, with the cages remaining in place and the riot police squads remaining in place.

Despite the blockade, trucks carrying Greek products, as well as vehicles for emergencies, are allowed to pass. Their decision is that the blockade will last at least three hours.

Tension at the blockade of Corinth

Blockade on the Egnatia Highway in Imathia

Shortly before 10:30 on Wednesday morning, the farmers of Alexandria, Imathia, arrived at the Niseli junction, on the Egnatia Highway, and proceeded to block the electricity to Veria. A member of the coordination committee of the protest told APE-MPE: "It is unknown when we will open the road."

It is noted that, despite the blockade, farmers are keeping a passage open exclusively for emergency vehicles, while it is recalled that since December 1, they have been lining up their tractors and agricultural vehicles at the entrance to Alexandria.
