In commemoration of their founding anniversary, along with the upcoming feast day of St. Demetrios, whom the church was named after, the community of St. Demetrios of Merrick, Long Island, and its members, are showing a dynamic presence with a confidence never before seen.
This year's celebrations have a special meaning, as this historic Greek community of Long Island recently had a catastrophic fire seriously damage their holy sanctuary last August.
The wounds from this fire were quickly healed as the community's members, young and old, stood by and supported it with the upmost confidence during its improvement.
A video of the fire that took place in August of 2013 is available for viewing.
