Greek Government Plans Meeting Over Soccer Outbursts

  • Written by

The Greek government has promised to hold discussions with soccer heads after Easter week, to control inappropriate outbursts occurring at matches.

These talks are being administered, due to the disturbing occurrences at the Greek Cup semifinal yesterday. Seven arrests happened at the PAOK versus Olympiakos game in Thessoloniki.

Deputy Culture Minister Yiannis Andrianos commented, "What happened at the PAOK-Olympiakos game last night shames Greek soccer...Immediately after Easter, I will convene a meeting with club chairmen and the relevant officials so they are made to live up to their responsibilities...We all have to sit at a table and not get up until we agree on a common plan of action".

It is predicted that law enforcers will examine the semifinal's wild activity. Tons of illegal flares were ignited prior to the game held at Toumba Stadium. The game's kickoff was stalled for over an hour as a result. The match was regularly halted, due to the conflict between observers and players. The Olympiakos team was attacked by fans after PAOK's win, while one individual was arrested for throwing fish on the visitor's bench.

Olympiakos coach Michel declared, "I have never seen anything like it in my life...It was the first time that I preferred to lose a game...If we had scored, even worse things could have happened".
