Athens Half Marathon Draws 12,000 Enthusiasts
Yesterday morning, the Athens Half Marathon attracted approximately 12,000 participants.
The winner of the Athenian race was Greek champion Michalis Parmakis, who completed the run at 1 hour, 9 minutes and 55 seconds. The fastest female who took part in the Marathon was Magda Gazea, who finished in 1 hour, 22 minutes and 9 seconds. Thousands of athletes engaged in the three and five kilometer competitions.
The Athens Half Marathon also included a children with special needs race, with a 1,000 meter duration. The Athens Marathon will be held this November 9th; the route begins at Marathon and finishes at Panathenaic Stadium in Athens. Registration opened in March and is considered one of the world's best marathons.
