Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Meets Palestinian & Israeli Presidents
Today, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew held a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli President Shimon Peres in the Holy Lands.
During his visit, the two Middle Eastern leaders decided to tour the Vatican together on June 6th, upon receiving an invitation by Pope Francis on Sunday. The two premiers plan to pray with the Pope, concerning a Middle East resolution and for enduring peace.
The Palestinian President described the Patriarch's visit to his offices, as a proud honor. Abbas also referenced the importance of the Greek Orthodox and Catholic leader's meeting on Sunday in Jerusalem, and admired their conflict resolution efforts.
According to ANA-MPA, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew commented on the two leader's planned voyage to the Vatican, "We will be with you with our prayers".
The Greek Orthodox Patriarch briefed Abbas on his collaborative endeavors with Pope Francis that include combatting racial discrimination, religious fanaticism, environmental protections, and the promotion of human liberty and character. Patriarch Bartholomew visited Peres earlier and congratulated him on welcoming Pope Francis' Vatican invitation.
