- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
In the presence of the President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Ministers of Defense of Greece and Cyprus, Nikos Dendias and Vassilis Palmas, the presidents of PASOK and SYRIZA, party representatives, members of parliament, the mayor of Thessaloniki and the leadership of the Armed Forces, this year's military parade is taking place in Thessaloniki.
The first part included civilian sections, followed by motorized and infantry sections of all three branches of the Armed Forces and the Security Forces.
This year's military parade has the "aroma" of the new era into which the Armed Forces of our homeland are entering. as the Department of Innovation and New Weapon Systems was presented for the first time, an initiative that is part of the "Agenda 2030" and the new Deterrence Doctrine and, among other things, includes Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, advanced anti-drone systems and artificial intelligence weapons
These are systems that make up the "Achilles Shield", a comprehensive protection dome with multiple levels of defense, where cutting-edge technology meets military operational experience
The parade will conclude with the spectacular air show of the "ZEUS" team, where Lieutenant Commander Georgios Sotiriou will perform precision exercises and impressive maneuvers with an F-16 fighter over the parade area, in the new Paralia, while he will talk via radio with the President of the Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas.
Specifically, the Greek-made anti-drone system "Centaurus" was presented at the parade, which was successfully tested on Greek frigates participating in "Operation Shields" in the Red Sea, preventing attacks by Houthi drones.
The parade also presented the electronic warfare weapon "Hyperion", which has the ability to shoot down enemy drones and is intended for surface units of the Navy, but also with a robotic system for neutralizing improvised explosive devices.
In terms of battle tanks, spectators had the opportunity to see Leopard tanks of the Land Army equipped with special "cages" that protect them against possible hits to the tank's turret.
