Greek of the Week: Gregory Pappas

On the first weekend of June, the long-awaited Greek America Foundation festivities descended upon New York City bringing star-studded events to celebrate and “honor those North American individuals who strive for excellence in their careers, philanthropic life and in the service of the public.” The Greek America Foundation is an internationally acclaimed organization that supports and celebrates Greek culture and heritage, as well as humanitarian causes. It was founded by Gregory Pappas in 2007 with the intention that “it was time to get beyond the baklava. It was time to stop breaking plates, and to start breaking stereotypes.” He has gone above and beyond and has reigned in a groundbreaking era of inclusion, by recognizing a new generation of Greek America visionaries by honoring, supporting, and celebrating their accomplishments.

Ellinikon: What the decision of the Ministry of Finance for the Casino foresees

The publication, in the Government Gazette, of the decision of the Minister of Finance for the granting of the "license for the development and operation of a casino with a wide range of activities at the Metropolitan Pole"marks the start of the1 billion euro investment plan for the construction of the casino and the integrated tourist complex in Ellinikon.

Athens Taxis: New scorching fares

Explosive fuel prices are leading to increases in taxi fares since, as taxi drivers say, the sector is “suffocating”. The cabbies’ union after meetings with the leadership of the Ministry of Transport pointed out that the existing conditions (two years of under-operation due to covid, increase of fuel price, doubling of vehicle maintenance costs) the industry has been stripped bare.
